NHAI plans elevated corridor on Greenfield Expressway to connect Faridabad with Jewar Airport

The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has granted approval for the construction of an elevated corridor along the Greenfield Expressway, a project valued at ₹1,650 crore. This new development will strengthen the road connection between Faridabad and the upcoming Noida International Airport at Jewar in Uttar Pradesh. As part of the revised plan, an elevated stretch of approximately 8.5 km will be added to the existing 31.5 km expressway. This enhancement is expected to raise the overall project cost by nearly 48 percent, taking the total investment to around ₹2,450 crore. Work on the elevated structure has already commenced, with pillar construction underway near Sector 65. This section will act as a crucial link between the Delhi Mumbai Expressway and Faridabad city. However, the final allocation of funds for this additional stretch is yet to be finalised between NHAI and the Haryana government. The elevated corridor has been designed to pass over residential sectors developed by the Haryana Shahari Vikas Pradhikaran (HSVP). Without this elevated alignment, a significant portion of the land acquired for these residential areas would have been diverted for expressway construction. The six-lane Greenfield Expressway project was launched in June 2023 and was initially scheduled to be completed within two years. However, with only about 35 percent of the work completed so far, the deadline has been extended by another 12 to 15 months. The expressway will originate from Ballabhgarh and terminate near Dayanatpur village close to Jewar. It will span around 22 km and pass through several villages, including Chandawali, Sotai, Bahbalpur, Phaphunda, Panhera Khurd, Narhawali, Mahmadpur, Hirapur, Mohna and Chhainsa. Developed under the Bharatmala Pariyojana, the project is expected to accelerate economic development across the Faridabad Jewar belt. The project is being executed under the Hybrid Annuity Model, a public-private partnership framework for highway development. Under this model, NHAI will bear 40 percent of the project cost, while the remaining amount will be funded by the concessionaire awarded the contract. Once completed, the expressway along with the elevated corridor is expected to significantly enhance regional connectivity. Improved access to the Jewar Airport is also likely to boost real estate activity in the surrounding areas by attracting fresh investments and driving long-term growth in property values.
