NHAI Approves Elevated Corridor on Greenfield Expressway, Connecting Faridabad to Jewar Airport

The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has received approval to construct an elevated corridor as part of the Greenfield Expressway, which will link Faridabad to Noida International Airport in Jewar, Uttar Pradesh. This Rs 1,650 crore infrastructure project is now set for a significant expansion, bringing its total cost to Rs 2,450 crore. Project Expansion: Elevated Corridor Addition NHAI has decided to integrate an 8.5 km elevated stretch into the existing 31.5 km Greenfield Expressway. This addition will: Increase the total project cost by 48%, from Rs 1,650 crore to Rs 2,450 crore. Improve connectivity between Delhi-Mumbai Expressway and Faridabad city. Prevent land acquisition from existing residential sectors under Haryana Shahari Vikas Pradhikaran (HSVP). While construction of the elevated corridor s pillars has begun near Sector 65, Faridabad, the final budget allocation between NHAI and the Haryana State Government is yet to be determined. Greenfield Expressway: Project Overview The six-lane Greenfield Expressway was launched in June 2023 and was originally scheduled for completion within two years. However, due to delays and the approval of the elevated corridor, the timeline has now been extended by 12-15 months. Route and Key Villages Covered: The expressway begins in Ballabhgarh and extends to Dayanatpur village near Jewar. It covers 22 km through villages including Chandawali, Sotai, Bahbalpur, Phaphunda, Panhera Khurd, Narhawali, Mahmadpur, Hirapur, Mohna, and Chhainsa. This infrastructure project is a part of the Bharatmala Pariyojana, a national highway development initiative aimed at enhancing regional connectivity and economic growth. Funding and Construction Model The Greenfield Expressway will be built under the Hybrid Annuity Model (HAM), a public-private partnership (PPP) model for road projects. Funding Breakdown: 40% of the project cost will be funded by NHAI. The remaining 60% will be financed by the company awarded the construction tender. This model ensures efficient project execution while reducing the financial burden on the government.
