UP Government Plans to Build 30 Lakh More Houses Under PMAY-Rural

Deputy Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, Keshav Prasad Maurya, has announced that the State government aims to construct 30 lakh additional houses under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) Rural. This initiative aligns with the Central government s larger goal of building two crore houses in the second phase of the scheme, which will be fast-tracked during the 2025-26 financial year. Survey and Digital Verification Process Underway The survey to identify new beneficiaries under the UP-PMAY-Rural scheme is currently ongoing across rural areas and is expected to be completed by March 31, 2025. To enhance transparency and efficiency, the State government is using the Awas Plus app for online beneficiary registration. Key Features of the Awas Plus App: Face authentication for verification Unique login access for Gram Panchayat secretaries Self-registration option for rural families By integrating these digital features, the government aims to streamline the selection process and ensure fair beneficiary allotment. Expanded Eligibility Criteria for Rural Housing Scheme The eligibility criteria for PMAY-Gramin have been revised to make the scheme more accessible. The key changes include: The monthly income limit has been increased from ₹10,000 to ₹15,000, allowing more families to qualify. Previous restrictions on owning assets like mobile phones, refrigerators, or motorcycles have been removed, expanding eligibility. Deputy CM Keshav Prasad Maurya, who also heads the rural development department, emphasized the government s commitment to ensuring every rural household benefits from this initiative. Community Engagement and On-Ground Implementation To boost awareness and address concerns, the State government is promoting the scheme through Gram Chaupals, community meetings held every Friday in two villages per block. Since December 30, 2022, the government has: Conducted 1.24 lakh Gram Chaupals Resolved over 4.67 lakh issues related to the scheme Current Progress and National Achievements Under PMAY-G 98% of the 36 lakh houses under the current phase in Uttar Pradesh have been completed. Uttar Pradesh leads the country in rural housing construction under PMAY-G. Nationwide, PMAY-G has allocated 3.79 crore houses to states and union territories. As of now, 3.34 crore houses have been sanctioned, and 2.69 crore houses have been completed. The PMAY-Gramin scheme, launched on April 1, 2016, aims to provide housing with basic amenities to 4.95 crore rural families by March 2029. With its expanded housing initiative, Uttar Pradesh continues to play a pivotal role in rural development and affordable housing expansion.
