MHADA to Build Eight Lakh Affordable Homes Across Maharashtra in Five Years

The Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority (MHADA) has announced an ambitious plan to construct eight lakh homes across the state over the next five years, with a focus on providing housing for low-income and underprivileged groups. The initiative, unveiled by Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, aims to address the growing demand for affordable housing in Maharashtra. Transparent Lottery System Boosts Buyer Confidence The announcement was made during a lottery event in the Konkan division, where 2,147 houses and 117 plots were allotted. The scheme received an overwhelming response, with more than 31,000 applications submitted for the available flats. At the event, Shinde emphasized that MHADA s transparent lottery system has enhanced trust among homebuyers and that the quality of MHADA-built homes has improved significantly over the years. Upcoming Housing Projects & Key Developments Eknath Shinde further stated that the Bhoomi Poojan (groundbreaking ceremony) for several cluster projects in Thane is scheduled for February 9, 2025. These upcoming residential projects will be developed under various government initiatives, including: Cluster redevelopment projects Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) Special Provisions for Workers & Low-Income Groups The new housing schemes will also include designated housing provisions for textile mill workers and dabbawallas (Mumbai s famed tiffin service providers). The initiative reflects the government s commitment to making affordable housing more accessible to a larger segment of society. With these large-scale housing projects, MHADA aims to address the rising demand for affordable homes, ensuring better housing opportunities for economically weaker sections while promoting urban development in Maharashtra.
