Draft Development Plan for Faridabad Gets Final Approval

The Haryana Town and Country Planning Department s state-level committee has approved the Draft Development Plan for Faridabad, designed to accommodate a projected population of more than 38 lakh residents by the year 2031. The decision was officially announced on November 7, 2017. The meeting was chaired by Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar , who emphasized the importance of vertical development through high-rise constructions. He stated that taller buildings would help preserve open spaces and improve the overall urban environment. The Chief Minister also stressed the government s commitment to the planned development of rural areas, ensuring they receive facilities comparable to those in urban regions. He instructed officials to strictly protect green belts and open spaces as outlined in the development framework. Addressing the development of sectors managed by the Haryana Urban Development Authority (HUDA), the Chief Minister advised prioritising areas where private builders have not introduced residential projects. He highlighted that the government s objective is to extend development benefits to underdeveloped and neglected regions. As part of the policy, private developers will be required to transfer 12 percent of their land to the government to support public infrastructure and development activities. The Draft Development Plan for Faridabad was initially released by the Town and Country Planning Department on July 14, 2014, followed by its publication by the Urban Local Bodies Department on July 18, 2014. During the public consultation period, authorities received 478 objections and 164 suggestions. These inputs were reviewed in detail, and after discussions involving the District-Level Committee and the Metropolitan Planning Committee, the plan was finalised.
