Faridabad Metropolitan Development Authority to be formed to accelerate urban growth: Haryana CM

Haryana chief minister Manohar Lal Khattar announced on December 22, 2018, that Faridabad will become the second district in the state, after Gurugram, to have a dedicated metropolitan development authority. A bill for the formation of the Faridabad Metropolitan Development Authority (FMDA) has already been drafted and is expected to be introduced in the upcoming session of the Haryana Vidhan Sabha. According to the chief minister, the FMDA will be established in line with the provisions of the Master Plan 2031. Once the authority is constituted, approvals and development-related decisions that earlier required clearance from the state headquarters will be handled locally. This move is expected to improve coordination between the municipal corporation and the Haryana Shahari Vikas Pradhikaran, resulting in faster implementation of projects. The FMDA will function under the leadership of the chief minister and will include elected representatives such as members of parliament, members of the legislative assembly, municipal corporation officials, zila parishad representatives, and senior government officers. To encourage public participation in city planning and governance, the authority will also receive guidance from a residents advisory council. The jurisdiction of the FMDA will cover all areas notified under the Master Plan in March 2018. In response to rising traffic congestion and increasing vehicle movement, the authority will prepare a comprehensive mobility and traffic management plan. This plan will be developed in coordination with the Faridabad police, municipal authorities, and the district administration, with the aim of improving road connectivity and easing transportation challenges across the city.
