L-G Approves Land Transfer for Construction of Delhi’s New 6-Lane Highway

Delhi s infrastructure development received a major boost after the Lieutenant Governor approved the transfer of land required for the construction of a new six-lane highway connecting DND Maharani Bagh to the Jaitpur-Pusta Road section of NH-148NA. The approved land, measuring around 1.11 acres, was transferred from the Irrigation and Flood Control Department to the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI). This decision cleared a major obstacle for the project and allowed faster progress on the planned road development. The request for land transfer had been pending since January 2023. This six-lane highway is part of the Central Government s larger Bharatmala infrastructure project, designed to improve road connectivity and reduce congestion across major urban corridors. The project is expected to significantly ease traffic movement between Delhi, Noida, and Faridabad, which are among the busiest commuter routes in the Delhi-NCR region. The highway will function as an access-controlled corridor, helping reduce travel time and improving daily commuting for thousands of residents. It is also planned as an extension that will strengthen connectivity between the DND Flyway and the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway, creating better regional transport links. In addition to easing congestion between Delhi and neighboring NCR cities, the project will also connect important routes such as Kundli-Manesar-Palwal (KMP), NH-2 (Delhi-Agra Highway), and the upcoming Jewar Airport corridor. This wider connectivity is expected to improve both passenger travel and commercial transportation. Another important condition attached to the approval is that NHAI must use inert construction and demolition waste generated in Delhi during the project. This includes bio-mined material extracted from dumping sites like Ghazipur and Okhla, supporting more sustainable construction practices while reducing landfill pressure. Officials believe that this new highway will help solve long-standing traffic bottlenecks and reduce pressure on existing roads, especially during peak office hours. The improved road network is also expected to support future real estate growth and economic activity in nearby regions. The project reflects the growing focus on large-scale urban infrastructure upgrades across Delhi-NCR. With better highways, metro expansion, and expressway development happening simultaneously, the region continues moving toward stronger intercity connectivity and faster transportation systems. Overall, the approval of land transfer for this six-lane highway marks an important step in Delhi s road infrastructure planning. Once completed, the project is expected to provide smoother travel, lower congestion, and stronger long-term connectivity for both residents and businesses across the NCR region.
