Rural Infrastructure in Haryana Gets Rs 204.67 Crore Loan Boost

Haryana received a major boost for rural development after the National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) sanctioned a loan of Rs 204.67 crore under the Rural Infrastructure Development Fund (RIDF). The funding was planned to strengthen rural roads, bridges, and renewable energy infrastructure across the state. Out of the total approved amount, Rs 147.18 crore was allocated to the state government under the 22nd tranche of RIDF for the financial year 2016 17. This portion was mainly meant for the construction of three rural bridges and the construction and upgradation of 26 rural roads across 10 districts including Ambala, Faridabad, Gurgaon, Hisar, Jind, Karnal, Mahendergarh, Panchkula, Rewari, and Yamunanagar. The total length of the proposed three bridges was around 329.20 meters, while the combined length of the 26 rural roads was approximately 184.78 kilometers. These projects were designed to improve transport access and provide year-round connectivity between villages and nearby hospitals, schools, storage centers, and local markets. Better roads were also expected to support agricultural activities and improve the daily lives of rural residents. An additional Rs 57.49 crore was approved for the installation of a 10 MW photovoltaic solar power plant at the Panipat Thermal Power Station (PTPS) in Panipat. This solar project aimed to generate clean energy, support environmental sustainability, and help the state meet its renewable energy obligations. It was also noted as the first time NABARD had approved this type of solar infrastructure project in Haryana. Officials highlighted that more than 50 percent of Haryana falls under the National Capital Region (NCR), which creates additional traffic pressure on rural roads due to increasing movement between urban and village areas. Because of this, the construction and upgradation of roads and bridges became especially important for smoother transportation and long-term infrastructure planning. With this approval, the cumulative RIDF assistance sanctioned to Haryana reached approximately Rs 5,613.65 crore, covering over 4,263 projects across multiple sectors such as irrigation, rural connectivity, water supply, anganwadis, girls toilet blocks, veterinary hospitals, dispensaries, and solar power development. This reflected the state s continued focus on strengthening rural infrastructure and improving public services. The funding played an important role in supporting balanced development between urban and rural regions. By improving roads, bridges, and energy systems, Haryana aimed to create stronger village connectivity, better transportation access, and more sustainable long-term growth. Overall, the Rs 204.67 crore NABARD loan marked a significant step toward improving Haryana s rural infrastructure. It helped address both transportation challenges and clean energy needs while supporting economic growth and better living standards for rural communities across the state.
