Bihar CM Transfers ₹1,200 Crore to PMAY-G Beneficiaries via DBT

On March 5, 2025, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar transferred ₹1,200 crore directly into the bank accounts of 3 lakh beneficiaries under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana - Gramin (PMAY-G) via Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT). In addition to this financial aid, eligible recipients will receive further monetary assistance to help construct permanent housing. Financial Assistance Under PMAY-G The Bihar government has initiated the first installment for PMAY-G beneficiaries, depositing ₹40,000 per recipient, amounting to a total expenditure of ₹1,200 crore. The second and third installments, totaling ₹80,000, will be distributed within the next 100 days. Under this scheme, each beneficiary receives ₹1.2 lakh in three phases to build a pucca house. The funding structure includes: 40% contribution from the Bihar State Government (₹48,000 per beneficiary) 60% contribution from the Central Government Housing Development Targets for Bihar The State has been assigned a target of 2.44 lakh houses under PMAY-G by September 2024. The Union Ministry of Rural Development allocated an additional 5.47 lakh houses on January 27, 2025. The total housing target for FY 2024-25 stands at 7.91 lakh homes. Additional Financial Benefits Apart from housing assistance, beneficiaries will receive: ₹12,000 for toilet construction under the Lohia Swachh Bihar Abhiyan. 90 days of unskilled labor employment under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS), with wages totaling ₹22,050.
