The National Capital Region Planning Board (NCRPB) is a statutory body established by the Government of India to ensure planned and balanced development across the National Capital Region (NCR). It was formed under the NCRPB Act of 1985 with the objective of coordinating development activities among multiple states surrounding Delhi. The NCR includes Delhi along with adjoining districts from Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, and Rajasthan. Due to rapid urbanisation and population growth in and around Delhi, there was a need for an organised authority to manage infrastructure, housing, and regional planning efficiently. The primary role of NCRPB is to prepare long-term regional plans that guide development across the NCR. The board ensures that development is evenly distributed and prevents excessive pressure on Delhi by promoting growth in surrounding regions. Another key responsibility of the board is coordination.
