Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) to Issue e-Khatas for Unauthorzised Properties

In a significant policy shift, the Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) has decided to extend e-khata issuance to unauthorised properties within the city. Previously, e-khatas were only issued for properties approved by the planning authority. So far, 39,000 e-khatas have been generated and distributed to property owners. Expansion of e-Khata Coverage Since 2022, MCC has been implementing e-khata services through its e-property software. However, properties not approved by the planning authority were excluded from this digital system. To resolve public grievances and streamline property documentation, the Karnataka Municipalities Act was amended, allowing e-khatas to be issued for unauthorised properties registered before September 10, 2024. This amendment will enable a wider segment of property owners to obtain formal documentation, enhancing property legitimacy and management. Public Awareness Campaign & Application Process To facilitate the process, MCC will launch a city-wide campaign encouraging property owners to register for e-khatas. Steps for Property Owners to Apply for e-Khata: Verify and list property details using the e-Aasthi software and property repository software. Contact MCC s Central Zone Office for assistance via the helpline numbers: 0824-2220302 9141996736 This initiative ensures that residents can seamlessly regularise their properties under the e-khata system. Significance of MCC s Decision The move to formalise unauthorised properties through e-khatas highlights MCC s commitment to efficient urban governance and property management. Key Benefits of e-Khata Issuance: Legal recognition for unauthorised properties. Simplified property taxation and transactions. Enhanced digital property records for better governance. This decision will greatly benefit property owners, ensuring transparency, efficiency, and regulatory compliance in Mangaluru s real estate sector.
